The space within us - 2023
Arts and sciences to discuss the origin
of the universe
When we look up at the night sky and observe the stars, the question of our place in the universe naturally arises. Throughout history, civilizations have projected their beliefs and knowledge onto the map of the sky. Today, what do we know about the universe?
During the 2021 stay: surfing, dancing and debates, a philosophical discussion led by Sacha Loup Bonnefond on the difference between "believing" and "knowing" revealed deep questions among the young people about the birth of the universe.
Religious explanations and scientific knowledge clash, without always finding common ground.
This year, the trip aims to provide an introduction to astronomy, which will introduce the scientific method. In addition, we will explore myths and stories about the birth of the universe, to showcase the diversity of narratives.
The practice of surfing will be maintained as a collective and unifying sporting activity; at the same time, a practice of attention, through the precise reading of the movements of the ocean, a technical discipline, and self-improvement.
Singing and music were chosen as artistic practices because they are a timeless element of evening gatherings. The songs and vocal exercises will reflect the questions explored throughout the week.
During their stay, the young people and their powerful ideas will be portrayed by an artist, allowing for an outside perspective on this experience. Some video footage will also be taken to share the atmosphere.
